Lewis died on 17 July and his body is to lie in state at the US Capitol this week. The hearing has been moved to Wednesday from Monday to allow members of Congress to pay their respects to Lewis, the longstanding politician and civil rights leader.

With these four companies having so much influence over the course of technology in the States and the world, the hope is a solution may be found that makes the industry more competitive. With more competition usually comes better products for people, and a freer market.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler and Antitrust Subcommittee Chairman David Cicilline prefaced the hearing by declaring:

“Since last June, the Subcommittee has been investigating the dominance of a small number of digital platforms and the adequacy of existing antitrust laws and enforcements. Given the central role these corporations play in the lives of the American people, it is critical that their CEOs are forthcoming. As we have said from the start, their testimony is essential for us to complete this investigation.”

The hearing is expected to stream free on the House Judiciary’s YouTube channel.
