Reddit user SyntaxTheGr8 surveyed over 1,000 Anthem players to collect some data on the game. 49.9% of those polled said that they encountered many bugs when playing Anthem, and 20.4% said that they encountered hardware affecting bugs (likely referring to the Anthem PS4 crashing debacle). When asked to rate developer feedback for Anthem on a scale from 1 to 5, 38% rated BioWare’s performance a 1 and a mere 0.5% gave BioWare a perfect 5 rating. Using the same scale, SyntaxTheGr8 found that 55.8% of Anthem players polled gave the loot system a 1, and again, only 0.5% gave a 5 rating.

As for the future of Anthem, 52.9% of those polled said that they have already stopped playing the game. 35.6% think that the future of Anthem is “Not looking good at all” with 33.1% saying the future of Anthem “Looks concerning.”

While a larger sample size may have led to different results, this survey is still concerning for Anthem’s future. BioWare has a DLC roadmap that it hopes will get the game back on track, but it won’t matter if BioWare improves the game if there is no one around to play it.

To its credit, BioWare does seem to be making a concerted effort to improve Anthem. It is even looking to hire a senior loot systems designer for Anthem to improve the loot experience for players, though some may feel like it’s too little too late. Whether or not Anthem still has time to improve is up for debate, but it looks like BioWare will need to take drastic measures if it hopes to compete with other looter-shooters like The Division 2 and the upcoming Borderlands 3.

Anthem is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
